Origins of the War

The principal cause of the war was the unrest between German Catholics and Protestants. The two groups argued over their interpretations over the Peace of Augsburg(1555), which was an agreement of religious question in Germany. Both groups violated the treaty. The Peace of Augsburg only recognized the Catholics and Protestants, but ignored the growing Calvinist population.
